CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) - A former Keswick scout troop leader has been sentenced to 30 years in prison after pleaded guilty to three dozen sex charges involving members of his troop.

The Daily Progress reports (https://bit.ly/1rupq5K ) that a judge sentenced 50-year-old David Brian Watkins to 10 years each on three of the counts. Albemarle County Circuit Judge Cheryl Higgins suspended 165 years on the remaining 33 charges. Watkins apologized for his actions before the sentence was imposed.

Watkins pleaded guilty in January to 36 felony counts of carnal knowledge of a child between the ages of 13 and 15.

Watkins led Keswick Troop 1028 from 2002 to 2008. He admitted to abusing three scouts between 2006 and 2009.
