MUSKEGON HEIGHTS, Mich. (AP) - The funeral for a western Michigan high school basketball player killed in a drive-by shooting will be at the school.

Friends and family of Marquis Gresham were in disbelief Friday, two days after the 17-year-old was killed while walking to a sports banquet at Muskegon Heights High School.

The Muskegon Chronicle (https://bit.ly/1nO3u37) reports that Gresham was being raised by aunts after his parents died when he was young. One of the aunts, Connie Hector, says, “They took our baby.”

Gresham’s funeral will be on May 2.

Gresham’s team reached the semifinals of the state basketball tournament. Coach Del Stewart raced to the scene of the shooting Wednesday.

Two people are in custody although no charges have been filed. Police don’t believe the shooting was random.
