EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (AP) - A southwestern Illinois man faces up to seven years in prison after being convicted of battering a woman who later recanted her claims he attacked her with a bar stool.

That (Alton) Telegraph (https://bit.ly/1ptCmLC) reports a Madison County jury found 39-year-old Scottie Musgraves of Godfrey guilty of aggravated domestic battery.

A nurse and sheriff’s deputy testified Malaya Collins told them Jan. 14 that a beating by Musgraves left her with a gash on her head and other injuries. But Collins testified that was a lie, saying she sustained the injuries during a fall on ice.

Prosecutor Crystal Uhe hinted to jurors that Collins still has feelings for Musgraves and concocted the other version three months later after learning she’d have to testify.

Musgraves is the father of Collins’ 12-year-old son.
