DUBUQUE, Iowa (AP) - An overturned semitrailer sent 40,000 pounds of frozen turkey across U.S. 61 south of Dubuque.

The Dubuque Telegraph Herald reports (https://bit.ly/1hxY0bQ ) that the crash happened around 1:30 a.m. Friday.

The 41-year-old truck driver from Decatur, Ga., told police that he swerved to avoid a deer, struck a guardrail and overturned the truck and trailer.

The driver was treated at a local hospital for minor injuries. He was cited for failure to maintain control.

Dubuque police Capt. Russ Stecklein says all the turkey had to be taken by dump trucks and tossed in a local landfill.
