MIAMI (AP) - More than a dozen mayors in Miami-Dade County will leave their cars behind and ride their bicycles to work.

The mayors are taking part in the “Bike305 Bike to Work Day” on Thursday, including Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez. Residents are also encouraged to do the same by combining their bike ride with public transportation to get to work.

A county statement says the 15 mayors are promoting physical fitness and healthy lifestyles, while encouraging residents to bike to parks, attractions, shops and events throughout the year.

Bike305 includes 15 municipal mayors and parks departments from Coral Gables, Cutler Bay, Doral, Homestead, Key Biscayne, Miami, Miami Beach, Miami Gardens, Miami Shores, North Miami, Palmetto Bay, Pinecrest, South Miami, Sunny Isles Beach and Surfside.
