PIERRE, S.D. (AP) - The last of the stained glass windows in a $3 million restoration project will be removed from the South Dakota Capitol Wednesday.
Crewmembers from a Wisconsin studio have removed the House chamber skylight this week. They will remove the Senate skylight Wednesday.
Mike Mueller with the Bureau of Administration says the House and Senate skylights were installed upside-down about a hundred years ago. After they are restored, they will be installed properly.
The windows in the main dome over the rotunda and those in the barrel vault over the stairs have already been removed.
They have been taken Conrad Schmitt Studios where they will be cleaned and repaired.
Mueller says the project is on track for completion by October 1, in time for the state’s 125 anniversary in November.
