It is time for a congressionally appointed special prosecutor to investigate attempts to subvert our Constitution and existing rule of law. It seems entities in the federal government are working to illegally change U.S. laws and establish objectives that cannot be accomplished under legitimate authority.

Elements inside the Internal Revenue Service may be supporting these illegal activities. Some IRS employees appear to have operated outside legal authority by targeting selected individuals. Although the Department of Justice and the FBI reportedly have been investigating for months, Deputy Attorney Gen. James M. Cole reportedly had no knowledge of the IRS’ missing emails until he read about them in the newspaper. By comparison, it took about 24 hours for the FBI to investigate New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie over “Bridgegate.” Has the FBI, too, become politicized?

There are also allegations that unidentified government officials knew well in advance of a looming, large influx of Latin American children. Media reports that U.S. border security is making only cursory investigations before releasing illegal crossers to travel into the United States. Outlets also report that illegal border crossers are being allowed to bypass Transportation Safety Administration officials and board commercial flights using papers stamped with “Notice to Appear.” If true, this is a serious threat to airline safety. In the meantime, however, local officials are being told to resettle border crossers’ children, placing strain on budgets, schools, etc., and border agents are operating up to 50 miles from the southwest border, rather than operating next to the border. How can they control the border from this distance?

President Obama refused to make a personal assessment of the border situation while in Texas last month. A responsible leader would want firsthand knowledge to support subsequent decisions. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, Nevada Democrat, continues to insists the southwest border is secure, despite border agents coming under fire from .50-caliber weapons. Has Mr. Reid ever visited the border?

We need our elected officials to lead the process of awakening America. The above allegations and others cannot be ignored. Congress must appoint a special prosecutor to conduct an official investigation and then report back to Congress and the American people.
