SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) - A bronze statue of former major league pitcher Stanley Coveleski will be installed as part of $400,000 in improvements to the South Bend Silver Hawks stadium.
The South Bend Tribune reports (https://bit.ly/1kWPO7B ) team owner Andrew Berlin is upgrading signs, installing a new sound system and making other changes in the offseason.
The minor league team sold the naming rights to its baseball field to an Indian-owned casino in Michigan last year. It’s now known as Four Winds Field at Coveleski Stadium.
Team President Joe Hart says the new signs won’t include the Coveleski name, but a statue of the late hurler who once called South Bend home will be erected inside the center field gate.
The statue will be unveiled on opening day April 8.
