COVENTRY, R.I. (AP) - A Rhode Island representative says a fellow lawmaker harassed him by creating a harshly critical Facebook page in his name.

Democratic Rep. Scott Guthrie of Coventry filed a cyber-harassment complaint with police regarding the page, which appeared to belong to Guthrie but slammed him as a “slimy, bottom-dwelling parasitic creature.”

Police determined that the page was created at the Statehouse by Republican Sen. Nicholas Kettle, also of Coventry. The 23-year-old Kettle tells The Providence Journal (https://bit.ly/1eUofEb ) that he wanted to criticize Guthrie over a local fire district controversy. Kettle says he won’t apologize for Coventry’s “rough and tumble politics.”

The website was taken down Wednesday.

The Journal reports that a staffer who helped Kettle create the site has lost his job.

Police say they have no plan to file charges.
