LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - The Burley Tobacco Growers Cooperative Association is accepting applications for six $1,000 scholarships for next school year.

The scholarships are available to people from Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio, Missouri and West Virginia, and the deadline is April 1.

The association says recipients will be chosen based on overall grade point average, writing ability and leadership potential. A minimum overall GPA of 2.5 from the applicant’s current educational institution is required, and preference will be given to applicants with a tobacco farming background.
