SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Utah Gov. Gary Herbert is appearing to react to criticism from House Speaker Becky Lockhart in her recent speech kicking off the 2014 legislative session.

Herbert told reporters Thursday that despite what critics may say, it’s possible that he’s the most conservative Governor in Utah since Brigham Young. The governor said he has not decided whether to run for re-election, but reiterated he wants to do his best to serve the state during this term.

Lockhart’s opening address criticized Herbert as an “inaction figure” and urged him to “lead and not just follow”.

Lockhart has announced she is not running for re-election in the House this year but has declined to say whether she will run governor in 2016.

There are about three weeks left in the 2014 legislative session.
