CLIFTON, N.J. (AP) - Two northern New Jersey police detectives escaped serious injury when their unmarked car was struck by a vehicle driven by an alleged drunken driver.

Clifton police tell The Record (https://bit.ly/1eePrMX) that the detectives were traveling to a home as part of an investigation when the crash occurred around 1:30 a.m. Saturday. They were treated at a hospital for back, neck and minor head injuries and released later Saturday.

Police say 27-year-old Clifton resident Victor Morales-Ogando was driving without his headlights on when he hit a parked car. His car then rolled over and hit the detectives’ car.

It wasn’t clear whether Morales-Ogando was injured in the crash. He’s charged with drunken driving and assault by auto, and it wasn’t known Sunday if he had retained an attorney.
