SALEM, Ore. (AP) - Oregon’s newest state lawmaker has taken office.

Democratic Rep. Barbara Smith Warner of Portland took the oath of office on Wednesday. She replaces Michael Dembrow, who moved up to the Senate after Jackie Dingfelder resigned to work for the Portland mayor’s office.

The Multnomah County Board of Commissioners unanimously backed Smith Warner late last year. Smith Warner told commissioners she’s a field representative for U.S. Sen. Ron Wyden. She also says she’s involved in her children’s school and her neighborhood association in Northeast Portland.

The Legislature has one remaining vacancy. Commissioners in Multnomah and Clackamas counties have not yet selected a replacement for Rep. Chris Garrett of Lake Oswego, who resigned when he was appointed to the Court of Appeals.
