CHICAGO (AP) - A veteran Chicago police officer is in custody and faces charges in the sexual assault of a 17-year-old girl who was staying at his home.

Prosecutors say 57-year-old Daniel Aguilera molested the teenage girl on New Year’s Eve then ordered her back into the house when she tried to escape by pretending to walk the dog.

Cook County Judge Israel Desierto ordered Aguilera held on $75,000 bail at a hearing Friday and required him to surrender his weapons, including his service revolver.

Police spokesman Adam Collins tells the Chicago Sun-Times that Aguilera has been stripped of his police powers.

Defense attorney Joseph Pavone says the officer is a “pillar of the community” and that the victim made up the story because she didn’t like the house rules Aguilera enforced.
