NEW SHOREHAM, R.I. (AP) - Rhode Island officials say four weeks of deer hunting are beginning on Block Island for 24 hunters who won a lottery run by the state Department of Environmental Management.

The deer hunt begins Tuesday and is limited to the 115-acre Black Rock-Rodman’s Hollow property. Six hunters will be allowed on the property Tuesday through Friday each week through Feb. 14.

Hunters are limited to five antlerless deer and three antlered deer. They’re also required to have hunting licenses and Block Island deer permits, and they must wear 500 square inches fluorescent orange on hats and vests.

Hunters killed 22 deer on the property during the first state-sponsored hunt last season.
