BAY ST. LOUIS, Miss. (AP) - Hancock County sheriff’s deputies say a 7-week-old baby found dead is believed to have suffocated while sleeping with his mother.

Detective John Alison tells The Sun Herald (https://bit.ly/LSzdmW ) the infant was unresponsive when his mother woke up about 6:20 a.m. Tuesday at her home on Firetower Road.

The mother took the baby next door to a relative’s home but they were unable to resuscitate him.

The death is believed to be accidental but remains under investigation.

Coroner Jim Faulk said an autopsy is pending.
