President Obama seems to think money is the answer to our border-security problem. I agree that it could be one solution, but not in the way he intends to use it. If you want to get someone’s attention, threaten their pocketbooks.

To get Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador and Mexico to pay attention and take serious action to stem the flow of illegal immigrants to the United States, threaten to cut off all international aid to them until after they do so. In the meantime, deduct from already approved international aid all costs associated with the current illegals arriving at our southern borders.

Mr. Obama wants $4 billion more to deal with this problem. I say this is one instance in which funding for a problem should all be paid for with moneys allocated for international aid, specifically, aid to those countries whose citizens are being found at our border. The president wants to send more money to those countries to “help” them keep their citizens from wanting to leave, but we’re already sending them plenty of money. Cut off the flow of U.S. dollars until after they stop the flow of illegal immigrants. Nothing will speak as loudly as that action to force a change.
