OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Officials at Tinker Air Force Base say a reserve unit that maintains aircraft at the base would be eliminated under this year’s proposed 2015 Department of Defense budget.

In a statement Wednesday, base officials say the 513th Air Control Group, a reserve unit with 345 citizen airmen, would be targeted under the administration’s current budget proposal. The airmen support and operate the E-3 Sentry aircraft, which performs an Airborne Warning and Control System, or AWACS.

The 513th ACG Commander Col. David Robertson says the proposed inactivation of the unit is part of “tough choices in an extremely difficult fiscal environment.”

Republican U.S. Rep. Tom Cole said in a separate statement Wednesday he was “disappointed” with the president’s budget proposal.
