AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) - Improving access to broadband Internet, strengthening laws to fight financial exploitation of the elderly and supporting funding for services to help older adults remain at home are among several ideas to tackle Maine’s aging population challenges in a new state action plan.
The “Blueprint for Action” released Thursday follows months of forums on Maine’s aging population led by Democratic House Speaker Mark Eves of North Berwick.
Eves and the Maine Council on Aging will hold working groups in communities over the next several months to begin carrying out some of the ideas in the report. There will also be a new “Aging Issues” caucus in the Legislature that will focus on legislative action that can be taken to advance the proposals.
