Old Testament prophet Isaiah warned us when he said that those who love darkness “call evil good and good evil” (Isaiah 5:20). That is exactly what is happening in America today (“Badmouthing the epitome of generosity,” Commentary, March 23).
The political left’s modus operandi is to demonize its opponents. We have seen leftists demonize the Tea Party. They use lies and ugly epithets to stigmatize good people, such as the philanthropic brothers, Charles Koch and David Koch. I refuse to even repeat the ugly names these brothers have been called because the labels are despicable lies.
In reality the Koch brothers are to be praised for their generosity in supporting programs that inform others about the nature of human freedom and how it leads to prosperity. They share their winning ideas and wealth by funding cures and treatments for diseases; they gift major grants to health institutes with the hope of eradicating cancer. They give millions of dollars to the Smithsonian and to artists, musicians and other cultural figures. Their industries promote conservation and education. They do much good for others with the wealth with which they have been blessed.
For this, because they are conservatives, leftists are determined to slander their good names with lies of greed and racism. Ironically, it is the left whose policies greedily take money from hardworking Americans for “redistribution.” It is the left that uses race, sex and class envy to bring about increasing division in America.
It’s a fact that the Civil Rights Act of 1964 was passed with stronger support from Republicans in the House than Democrats. The radical, racist Ku Klux Klan consisted of many Democrats. It is the liberal left that is fiendishly working to take away our First and Second Amendment rights. There is a paradox here, and we must fight every false accusation, shine the light on truth and dispel the darkness.
