CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (AP) - An off-duty South Texas law enforcement officer has died after being attacked and robbed while visiting Corpus Christi.

Corpus Christi police on Wednesday said nobody has been arrested in the death of 41-year-old Maverick County Deputy Constable Jose Blanco of Eagle Pass.

Capt. Michael Alanis (AL’-uh-nees) on Tuesday announced the death and said police are seeking the public’s help in locating any suspects. Officers are trying to determine if Blanco was attacked before, during or after the robbery.

Police the night of March 16 responded to an injury call and Blanco told officers he’d been robbed. Blanco had a head injury and was transported to a hospital, where he died March 17.

Investigators believe Blanco could have been assaulted as early as March 15 but no timetable has been confirmed.
