NEWRY, Maine (AP) - Amateur skiers are going to be getting their chance to compete in Maine against Team USA’s gold medal trio.

Competition kicks off Friday in the Dumont Cup with amateur freeskiers performing for judges at Sunday River. On Saturday, the field will be winnowed to 20 who’ll compete against 20 pros.

American slopestyle gold medalists Joss Christensen, Gus Kenworthy and Nick Goepper are among Saturday’s participants in the biggest pro-am freestyle ski event in the East.

The podium sweep was just the third for the U.S. in Winter Olympics history, joining men’s figure skating in 1956 and men’s halfpipe snowboarding in 2002.
