CRANSTON, R.I. (AP) - Environmental officials say it will take several days to clean up after the massive fire that destroyed a half dozen boats and damaged others at the Rhode Island Yacht Club in Cranston.

Workers are using booms and absorbent pads to contain the oil and fuel that spilled during Saturday night’s blaze.

The Providence Journal reports (https://bit.ly/1g36UzN ) more than 300 gallons of oil had been collected by Monday afternoon.

Authorities also brought in a salvage barge to help get the damaged boats out of the water.

Police believe the fire started on a powerboat, one of several that sank during the fire. A cause has not been determined.

About 40 boats were docked at the club. The largest of those destroyed was a 60-foot yacht. No injuries were reported.
