OCEANSIDE, N.Y. (AP) - A bankruptcy judge has approved the sale of Sandy-shuttered Long Beach Medical Center to South Nassau Communities Hospital of Oceanside.

Newsday (https://nwsdy.li/1mR1qeh ) reports that the approval paves the way for the hospital’s transformation into a 24-hour emergency department and walk-in clinic.

South Nassau had also wanted to buy the nursing home affiliated with the Long Beach hospital. However, it was outbid last week by a group that owns nursing homes in the Rockaways.

Both sales were approved by U.S. Bankruptcy Court Judge Alan Trust on Monday.

The Long Beach hospital, already in financial trouble, never reopened after the storm.
