BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - Opponents of a plan to bring F-35 fighter planes to the Burlington International Airport say they will ask a judge to reconsider a ruling that the plan doesn’t need a Vermont land use permit.
If the opponents don’t seek reconsideration, they say they will appeal the decision by a judge that there’s no need for an Act 250 land-use permit to bring F-35 fighter planes to the airport.
In a ruling Tuesday, Superior Court Judge Thomas Walsh said the F-35s flying from the National Guard base would not represent a substantial change at the airport.
But opponent James Marc Leas says the F-35s would damage local communities and the local economy, including making sections of Winooski “unsuitable for residential use.”
The guard is scheduled to get 18 F-35s in 2020.
