SAN MATEO, Calif. (AP) - A group of boaters in Northern California had to jump ship off a motorboat after colliding with a whale.

San Mateo County Sheriff’s spokeswoman Rebecca Rosenblatt says the people on board reported that their boat collided with a whale off the coast of Pescadero around 2:40 p.m. Saturday.

Rosenblatt says the boat’s engine was knocked out during the collision as the boaters were able to evacuate from the vessel and get to short near Pebble Beach. The boat was eventually recovered.

No serious injuries were reported.
