SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - U.S. Rep. Kristi Noem has joined lawmakers who are calling for Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki to step down amid allegations of delayed care and misconduct at VA facilities around the country.

The South Dakota Republican calls it “not only a failure of bureaucracy, but also a failure of leadership.”

U.S. Sen. John Thune has previously called for new leadership at the VA. The South Dakota Republican also has called for a nationwide inspector general investigation of VA medical facilities.

Shinseki has called the reported problems “reprehensible to me, to this department and to veterans.”
