MAIZE, Kan. (AP) - Police say a car found with a decomposing body inside belonged to a Wichita man missing since February.

The car was found Monday morning at the Fieldhouse Apartments in Maize after police were called to investigate a bad smell. McPherson police said Monday the car belonged to Adam Sabri, 54, who co-owns a sports bar in McPherson. The body has not been positively identified because it was badly decomposed.

Residents of the apartment complex said they had noticed the car sitting in the same spot for months but the tint on the windows was so dark that they could not see inside. They began noticing a strong odor from the car as temperatures hit 100 degrees in recent days.

Maize Police Chief Matt Jensby said Monday afternoon that officers found the car locked but saw the body in the back seat. He said the body, which was clothed, apparently was decomposing for weeks or months.

On Monday afternoon, the McPherson Police Department said the car belonged to Sabri, who has been missing from Wichita since Feb. 9. He was the owner of the Timeout Sports Bar and Grill in McPherson. He owned a white 2008 Saturn Aura.

Jensby said the car found in the apartment is a white, four-door Saturn with a Sedgwick County license tag.

“It’s been very creepy knowing that there has been a dead body so close to my children,” resident Stephanie Avants told KAKE-TV (https://bit.ly/1o2gyoI ). “I usually park beside of it almost every day. I just thought it was inoperable.”

The car was towed from the apartment complex Monday evening.
