REDWOOD CITY, Calif. (AP) - A San Francisco Bay Area man accused of killing his friend with a knife and a hammer has been found competent to stand trial.
KTVU-TV reports (https://bit.ly/SDisPT ) Marc Anthony Furlan was arrested in October 2012 after police responded to a disturbance call at the home he shared with his father and two tenants in Pacifica.
Officers discovered 24-year-old Kevin Coffey unconscious on the ground in front of the home. Coffey was pronounced dead at the scene, with more than 50 visible wounds to his body.
The 25-year-old Furlan was allegedly attempting to dispose of the body when police arrived.
An initial police report says the death was apparently the result of an altercation between the two friends.
Coffey’s murder was the first homicide in Pacifica in more than a decade.
