The theme park boasting such terrifying roller coasters as Superman: Ride of Steel, Joker’s Jinx and Apocalypse ratchets up the terror quota during the Halloween season weekends with its annual “Fright Fest.”

This year’s collection of live shows, haunted houses, mazes, scare zones and thrill rides offers a range of chills each night for guests within the PG-13 demographic.

Mazes and zones worth a scream include “Spider Outbreak,” “Twisted Fairytales 3D Haunted House” (well worth the wait just to see a twisted Captain Hook and Alice), “Zombieville” (undead jumping out everywhere, even from trash cans), “Carn-Evil” (plenty of demented clowns) and a Mardi Gras maze from hell called “Voodoo Curse.”

Also, don’t miss “The Haunting of Hall Manor,” a dark trail walk conjuring scares around a little dead girl named Eleanor. She is actually a supposed real-life ghost that has existed in the theme park since its opening as Wild World back in 1992.

However, those with a penchant for bizarre theater won’t want to miss “Blood Moon: A Stunt Slaughter.” Cramming a full-length 1960s “Kung Fu”-themed horror movie into about 25 minutes, the show offers the woeful tale of a family caught up in a hairy and occasionally blood-spurting apocalypse.

What was the most amazing event of the evening? The Count never heard the ripping of a chainsaw, usually a mainstay for these events.

By the way, during the daylight hours, Six Flags America caters more to the younger ghoul element, with much less scary options like the “Pumpkin Patch Hay Maze,” “Monster Mash Bash,” “Trick or Treat Trail” and “Little Monsters Kiddie Hayride,” all mainly contained in “Looney Toons Spooky Town.”

Fear factor (out of 5): 3.25 for adults and 3.5 for brave 13-year-olds.

Hours: Friday, 5 p.m. to midnight; Saturday, noon to midnight; and Sunday, noon to 9:00 p.m. (open through Nov. 2).

Price range: Starting at $56.99 for unlimited park and “Fright Fest” access (look online for daily deal purveyors to find less wallet-slicing pricing).
