President Obama told supporters Tuesday that maybe he’s “a little simple.”

“Perhaps I’m just a little simple,” Mr. Obama said at a Democratic fundraiser in New York City. “I have never been more optimistic about America’s future.”

The president, who was raising money for Democratic Senate candidates, said America has been dealt a great hand.

“We have the best cards,” he said, adding that the question is how America plays them‎.

Mr. Obama, who will address the United Nations on Wednesday about the terrorist threats posed by the Islamic State and other groups, said this meeting of world leaders is big.

“Unlike some of the previous United Nations General Assembly meetings, this one really counts,” he said.
