The ancient Greeks warned, “Those that fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it.” Those words are as true today as they were 2,000 years ago.

In an effort to spread democracy (regime change) throughout the world, we have mistakenly deposed dictators only to find that the resultant political vacuum breeds even worse results. Thanks to Jimmy Carter we got a nuclear-armed mullah and government-financed terrorists. Thanks to George W. Bush we got Saddam Hussein providing a military buffer to Iran. Thanks to Barack Obama and Hillary Rodham Clinton we got Libya becoming a safe haven for Islamic terrorists.

Currently the target is Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad, protected by the Russians as millions of refugees flee, offering a convenient cover for terrorists.

By creating a house of cards in the Middle East through our misguided commitment to regime change, we have established the environment for Islamic terrorists to launch attacks around the world, including in our homeland. When will we ever learn?
