Will 2016 be the last year of liberty? If the radical left has its way, it will be. If any of the Democrats are elected president in 2016, it will be.

The most intense front in the war against liberty is coming from the radical homosexual movement. In the 1990s, the homosexual movement decided it would try to become the next civil rights movement. At the time, it claimed it only wanted tolerance. For the left, tolerance only exists when homosexuals are trying to force their will on the rest of the nation.

The turning point for the homosexual attack on liberty began in 2003. That year, U.S. Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy, turned the U.S. Constitution upside down and inside out, and figured out Thomas Jefferson had left secret coded messages and that sodomy was a constitutional right.

Since then, homosexual rights have been codified in statute and the left has made absolute war against anyone who would stand up against them. In the famous case in Oregon involving Sweet Cakes by Melissa, a Christian baker refused to bake a cake for a homosexual wedding. In other cases, Christians in other professions, such as florists and photographers, as well as other bakers risked crushing fines and even jail time for refusing to compromise their faith.

Having succeeded in intimidating Christian business owners, the homosexual left has turned on the church itself.

Fontbonne Academy is a Catholic school in Milton, Massachusetts. It was founded in 1954 by the Catholic Sisters of St. Joseph. In 2014, the school offered a job to Matthew Barnett as director of food services. That employment offer was rescinded after the school discovered Mr. Barnett was a homosexual. Barnett claims the school told him they could not hire him because the Catholic Church does not recognize same sex marriage.

Somewhere in there, Mr. Barnett missed the point that the Catholic Church also considers homosexuality to be a sin.

Mr. Barnett filed suit against the school, claiming discrimination. The school said it should not be subject to the Massachusetts discrimination laws regarding homosexuals because the school has the right to the free exercise of its religion, not to mention freedom of association.

In a move that will shock no one, a Massachusetts court has ruled that the rights of homosexuals trump the rights of Catholics. Not withstanding Justice Anthony Kennedy’s contorted and confused interpretation of the Constitution, the Bill of Rights does guarantee religious freedom. It does not guarantee the right to sodomy.

This is only the beginning and if the Democrats take the White House in 2016, it will only get worse. The end game here is for the left to start telling churches what they can believe and eventually who their clergy can be.

Immediately after the Obergefell decision this summer that created a constitutional right to homosexual marriage, the New York Times called for stripping churches of their tax exempt status. It is only a matter of time before the left tries to strip tax exempt status away from churches that oppose homosexual marriage and the far left agenda.

This nation was founded on freedom of religion. The left in America today sounds more like the Soviet Union of Joseph Stalin. Freedom hangs in the balance. Either the Republican Party prevails in the 2016 election and stands for religious freedom or liberty in America will be finished.
