After two years on the early morning set, Elisabeth Hasselbeck announced Monday that she will step down from her role as co-host of “Fox & Friends” on FOX News. The mother of three has decided to curtail her TV career while she raises her children - all under 10 years old.

“Oftentimes, the most difficult decisions are between two great things. Throughout my 14 years working in television, I have never experienced a more positive and thoughtful atmosphere than FOX News Channel,” Mrs. Hasselbeck said, citing network CEO Roger Ailes for creating “the best working environment a woman and mother could ask for,” and for his kindness and compassion.

“I am entering into a season where I want to start my day with my children first, and he offered his blessing to do so. With a heart full of gratitude and the peace that God has given me, I am confident that this personal decision is the right one for our family,” she continued.

“While I would love for her to continue here, I respect her incredibly difficult, yet deeply personal decision. She has been a great addition to the Fox & Friends franchise,” Mr. Ailes said.”

Mrs. Hasselbeck has been a co-host with Steve Doocy and Brian Kilmeade; the trio were instrumental in maintaining consistent ratings during her time at the  network. The show remains  No. 1 in basic cable during its 6-9 a.m. timeslot. Several interim guests host will be featured on the program until a permanent replacement is found, the network says.

Prior to joining Fox News, Mrs. Hasselbeck spent nearly a decade at ABC’s “The View,” often the sole voice for conservative views on culture, politics and news. Some reports indicated she had been “fired” for her views.

Mrs. Hasselbeck has been married to her college boyfriend pro football quarterback Tim Hasselbeck since 2002.
