ANALYSIS/OPINION:

Republican supporters are not interested in hearing ‘I am a different kind of Republican,’ ‘I will make our country great again,’ or ‘I will balance the budget.’ They are looking for a Republican candidate to embrace and fully support the Republican agenda of smaller government, lower taxes, a superior military, personal and religious freedoms and policies to assure national security and assist businesses in creating jobs and energy independence.

President Reagan was a good role model. He took his policies to the people and told them that with their support, he and they could succeed. He also was able to counter the opposition’s attacks in a calm but forceful way. The Republicans need to be realistic. Getting things done requires tact, sound arguments and a team mentality.

In order to strengthen their position, Republicans need to be specific about what is wrong with President Obama’s policies and leadership, provide their own plans for dealing with our many problems — including reversing or repealing Mr. Obama’s failed policies — and most importantly, not use personal attacks on their primary opponents. These serve no useful purpose.
