Whenever I wonder what else can the Obama administration do to shock the senses, it does not fail me. As I read in Monday’s Washington Times, a new low has been reached: A Navy ship is being named for polarizing gay-rights icon Harvey Milk (“Ray Mabus bypasses war heroes, names Navy ship for gay rights icon Harvey Milk,” Web, Aug. 7). Any of the scores of military soldiers who have served in Afghanistan or Iraq, Medal of Honor recipients, or the SEALs who gave their lives to defend the U.S. consulate in Benghazi are so much more deserving of having a ship named after them. But Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus picked a gay activist who lied about his service in the Navy and carried on a sexual affair with a 16-year-old runaway boy who eventually committed suicide. This makes Milk a sex offender and better suited for jail.

Mabus has no concern whatsoever for the U.S. Navy. This is not the first time he’s made such a politically correct appointment; his only goal is to push the political correctness of this administration to the limit and then further. Congress should force Mr. Mabus to resign. This is intolerable. I personally would not want to serve on that ship, but many sailors will be forced to do so.

Perhaps next Mr. Mabus can order the ship painted gay-pride rainbow colors. Will they be flying a rainbow flag on the ship after commissioning?
