Nils Lofgren

“UK2015 Face the Music Live Tour”

Cattle Track Road Records

Longtime Bruce Springsteen and Neil Young crony Nils Lofgren releases a new compliation of live performances across the pond for Cattle Track. “Too Many Miles” is a spookily entrancing opening salvo, while “Lost a Number” is quietly contemplative. “Walkin Nerve” has the heart-stabbing line “I’m too sick to believe in self-love.” “Miss You” is a tribute to former E Street cronie Clarence Clemons, while “Girl in Motion” is largely a driven, instrumental dirge. “I Don’t Want to Talk About” finds a musical way to substitute for words, while “Goin’ Back” provides excellence in introspection, and “Like Rain” will make even the most hard-hearted sit up and take notice. “No Mercy” is a clarion call for action, with “Shine Silently” an amazing closer.

Mr. Lofgren will join Mr. Springsteen at Verizon Center on Jan. 29 as part of “The River” tour, and he will be back to perform his solo material in April 23 at The Birchmere. Tickets are $49.50 by going to Birchmere.com.
