ANALYSIS/OPINION:

Will the Obama administration’s need to undermine tradition and efficiency in the United States never be satisfied? Now Navy Secretary Ray Mabus, whose own military background amounts to a very brief Navy enlistment, has decided that he knows more about managing the U.S. Marine Corps than the men who have dedicated their lives to just that (“Liberal Democrat slams ‘ridiculous’ Navy chief for forcing female integration on Marines,” Web, Jan. 12).

For nearly two-and-a-half centuries, the Marine Corps has trained and effectively deployed what are arguably the finest warriors the world has ever known. Now Mr. Mabus is giving it detailed instruction on how it must change its training programs, which have been carefully and thoughtfully developed for decades. In addition to offering his vast wisdom in the area of training, Mr. Mabus is also putting himself forth as an expert on the structure of an efficient infantry fighting unit. Such arrogance would be beyond belief anywhere other than within our current administration.

Mr. Mabus should back off. The Marines know what they are doing.
