It is reassuring that global warming frightens President Obama — so much so, in fact, that he has taken a break from neutering the military to put dollars into vital interests such as more Solyndra-type foolishness. For a person gifted with such radiant intelligence, Mr. Obama is remarkably confused about the nature of the heat facing our nation. This heat is the warmth generated by radical Islam’s grinding wheels, as terrorists eagerly hone their blades for the next cluster of bound and blindfolded captives. It emanates from Russian President Vladimir Putin’s furious sabre rattling, his scabbard glowing red, anxious to reprise Russia’s glory days of military prominence. The heat is North Korea’s pretty-boy leader Kim Jong-un assuring the world that his gulag will not use nuclear weapons first, apparently convinced that any observers of his conduct and past utterances are swayed by the radiant charisma he exudes. It is the egomaniacal, pseudo-criminal campfire that is American politics.

All these tongues of flame constitute clear and present dangers that Mr. Obama is choosing to ignore, being content to kick these cans of serpents down the road to the next gaggle of political wunderkinds. It would be encouraging if our electorate had the rocks in their pockets to nominate and elect someone who could actually come equipped with a fire extinguisher. I’m not seeing it.
