PHOENIX (AP) - The Latest on a fatal wrong-way crash on a Phoenix freeway (all times local):

9:30 a.m.

A Phoenix freeway has reopened after being closed during the Tuesday morning commute following a wrong-way head-on accident that killed both drivers.

Westbound Loop 101 was closed at Interstate 17 for more than five hours following the crash.

Arizona Department of Public Safety spokesman Quentin Mehr says impairment is suspected. DPS Capt. Tim Mason says authorities received calls about a possibly impaired driver in the area shortly before the crash.

Mason says people tried to stop that driver from getting into his car at a gas station but were unsuccessful.

Mehr says one of the vehicles caught fire after the crash and that both drivers were dead at the scene.

Identities weren’t released.
