DUBUQUE, Iowa (AP) - A judge has denied a request for a new trial by a Dubuque man convicted of killing his daughter.

The Telegraph Herald reports (https://bit.ly/2eEEaOQ ) that Iowa District Court Judge Michael Shubatt on Thursday denied the request by 63-year-old Robert Stern. Stern was convicted earlier this year of first-degree murder in the June 2015 shooting death of 27-year-old Kimberly Stern.

Prosecutors had argued Stern killed his daughter, who was autistic, because he was tired of caring for her. Authorities say he shot her 15 times with three different handguns.

In his motion, Stern argued there had not been enough evidence to convict him at trial. The judge on Thursday disagreed.

Stern is set to be sentenced on Nov. 21.
