A victory will keep the first-place Hokies on track for a spot in the ACC championship game in Justin Fuente’s first season. The Blue Devils are trying to scrape together enough victories to extend their program-record streak of bowl appearances to five.


Virginia Tech passing offense vs. Duke passing defense. Pittsburgh dared the Hokies to throw against them last week - and they did, with QB Jerod Evans throwing for a career-best 406 yards and two touchdowns. The Blue Devils will have to be better than they were last week, when they allowed run-heavy Georgia Tech to roll up 264 yards passing and throw for the go-ahead touchdown in the final minutes.


Virginia Tech: TE Bucky Hodges is coming off a six-catch, 145-yard performance against Pitt and in last year’s meeting with Duke set a then-career-high with 105 yards receiving and three touchdowns.

Duke: RB Shaun Wilson takes over as the primary ball carrier with leading rusher Jela Duncan lost for the season with a ruptured Achilles tendon. Wilson


Duke is the last remaining ACC team without a conference victory. … Virginia Tech is 5-0 at Wallace Wade Stadium. Road teams have won the last three meetings, with the Blue Devils winning in both 2015 and ‘13 in Blacksburg. … Duke has lost three of its four captains to season-ending injuries, with only DT A.J. Wolf remaining. … Tech K Joey Slye has an ACC-best 16 field goals and trails only Heisman Trophy front-runner Lamar Jackson of Louisville in points per game (10.0).
