LOS ANGELES (AP) - Authorities say an off-duty officer for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs shot at someone trying to steal his motorcycle in Los Angeles, and police arrested a suspect a short time later.

Officer Aareon Jefferson says the shooting was reported around 5 a.m. Thursday in the Panorama City area.

No injuries were reported.

Few details were released about the incident, but police said the theft suspect was taken into custody.

The Los Angeles Times says robbery/homicide detectives are investigating.
