SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - A Canadian man has been banned from U.S. public lands for five years for illegally wakeboarding on the Bonneville Salt Flats.

The Salt Lake Tribune reported Friday (https://bit.ly/2fsjM3e) that Parker Heuser pleaded guilty to several Bureau of Land Management citations.

They include creating a hazard to public lands and failure to obtain a special recreation permit.

Attorney Thomas Fleener says Heuser also agreed to pay $1,000 in fines.

The BLM began an investigation in May after seeing social media photos of a bus belonging to a Canadian lifestyle group called High on Life on the flooded flats with three costumed men wakeboarding behind it.

Fleener says three other High on Life members have pleaded not guilty to various citations.

Driving off-road on the flats is prohibited when it is wet.
