PARK CITY, Utah (AP) - A teenager charged with distribution of a new synthetic drug that killed two 13-year-old Park City boys has made his first appearance in juvenile court by phone.

Defense attorney Tara Isaacson says the 15-year-old boy was calling into the hearing Friday because he is in treatment.

The boy faces charges of distribution of a controlled or counterfeit substance and reckless endangerment.

The Deseret News reports (https://bit.ly/2fbMFBl ) Isaacson is submitting denials, the juvenile court equivalent of a not guilty plea, in response to the charges.

He is scheduled to return to court Dec. 2.

Toxicology tests confirmed that Ryan Ainsworth and Grant Seaver overdosed on a drug called U-47700, sometimes known as “pink.”

Both were found dead over two days in September.
