A D.C. police officer has been arrested on charges of drunken driving while he was on duty early Sunday.

Around 2:20 a.m., Officer Arthur Thompson was found to be under the influence of alcohol while on duty in the 1400 block of 18th Street in Southeast. A supervising officer was investigating a citizen complaint against the officer when he smelled alcohol.

The supervisor conducted field sobriety tests that confirmed Officer Thompson, who’s been with the department for four years, was under the influence. He was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, a police department statement says.

The Metropolitan Police Department has revoked Officer Thompson’s powers, and the incident is being investigated by the Internal Affairs Division.
