DEL VALLE, Texas (AP) - Authorities say a body has been discovered in the trunk of a burning car in the Austin suburb of Del Valle.

Travis County sheriff’s office spokesperson Kristen Dark tells the Austin American-Statesman (https://atxne.ws/2f326we ) that fire crews discovered the body early Sunday. The sheriff’s office was then called to the scene to investigate.

Firefighters were alerted to the burning car around when a neighbor called to report the blaze.

Dark says that because of the extent of the fire damage, officials are not able at this time to determine the cause of death. And because the body was burned so badly, officials also do not know the gender, age or race of the deceased.

Dark says more information will be released after the autopsy is performed.
