BRIDGEVILLE, Del. (AP) - State police say a pedestrian was hit and killed by a car south of Bridgeville.

Police said in a news release that the victim, 72-year-old David Wynes of Georgetown, was walking in traffic on Wesley Church Road when he was hit shortly after 8 p.m. Saturday.

Police say the driver swerved to avoid Wynes but hit him. Police say Wynes was carried by the vehicle before landing on the road. He died at the scene.

Police say Wynes was not wearing anything brightly colored or reflective when he was hit.

The driver who hit the pedestrian and the driver’s wife suffered minor injuries. They were taken to a hospital where they were treated and released.

The collision remains under investigation, and no charges have been filed.
