THIBODAUX, La. (AP) - A Lafourche Parish jury took about an hour to return a unanimous verdict convicting 38-year-old David Brown, of Houma, of three counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of a woman and her two children.

Twenty-nine-year Jacquelin Nieves and her daughters, 7-year-old Gabriela and 1-year-old Izabela were found dead in their Lockport apartment on Nov 4, 2012.

Prosecutors said Brown also sexually assaulted Nieves and the 7-year-old and set the family’s apartment on fire.

A forensic pathologist determined Jacquelin and Izabela died from stab wounds, while Gabriela died of smoke inhalation.

The Daily Comite reports () the verdict came Sunday night on the seventh day of testimony.

A penalty phase in which jurors will decide if Brown should be put to death is set to begin Monday.
