PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - A 28-year-old Rhode Island man has admitted robbing a bank with a machete.

Federal prosecutors say John Ryder, of West Warwick, pleaded guilty Monday in federal court in Providence to bank robbery by force, violence and intimidation. They say no plea deal was involved.

Ryder admitted entering a BankRI branch office in Coventry on May 2 armed with a machete and demanding cash from bank tellers. He made out with nearly $6,000.

Video surveillance cameras show Ryder fleeing in a vehicle. He was caught days later.

A federal grand jury returned its indictment June 7. Ryder has been in federal custody since his arrest. He’ll be sentenced Jan. 20.
